Winter Reminders!
If your hive went into winter with mite counts below 5 and a strong population of bees, they are taking care of themselves. Here are things to look out for/do over the next month:

  • 24 Hour Mite Drop
Here is a 26 min lecture I gave last January about how to do the 24 hour Mite Drop. I like to do one or two in January to verify mite levels are low. If you didn't sugar roll since October or earlier, the sooner you can do this, the better.
  • Feed 1/4 Pollen Patty to Small Hives
For 1 box hives, it's super important to feed them a little pollen patty every 2 weeks. Check that they have some left before or after rain. If not, add some more in. Tomorrow would be a good time to add some in.
  • Check for Ant Trails
If you see ant activity on the outside of the hive, replenish your ant protection. This is 100x more important for a small 1-box hive or nuc.

May you have a warm, love-filled holiday season! -Jennifer
